Alignment in BATTLE of the BOBA

Phew, it’s been a while since I’ve made a blog post! In complete transparency the last couple weeks of February had my mind in a bit of fog- ideas, words, thoughts weren’t coming as nicely to me.


And then... something shifted.


This Feburary marks a leap year, and we will not experience this additional day in February for another four years. Recently, I participated in a master class where the instructor highlighted this fact. As part of the session, we were given "homework" to set an idea or an intention on the final day of February that, when revisited in four years, will evoke a sense of pride and accomplishment.


This got my mind spinning, and as I serve at my truck every day, I grow more and more into what I want our company to stand for. And there are two things that I I keep coming back to as not aligning. One is that I have chosen to source all compostable serving items, but I am not composting them properly AND that my Boba teas do not align with what I am trying to stand for. 


So, in the last couple of days of February, I came back into myself and my ideas started flowing. I’ll tell you about my solution to the compostable packaging, but what I’m going to share with you today is about the Boba.


Steve and I did an event on Tuesday night with his truck and we had so much fun working together. It was a rough night as we were busier in a shorter period of time than we ever have been but it was so enlightening. To work alongside him, to get through what could have been a crash together, and to be smiling at the end of the night. We didn’t get the chance to sit and review any of our sales, or our items, or our mistakes, or our wins that night because we were both just exhausted, but we did get the chance to sit together the night after. And on THAT night, as we reviewed our items sales, we discovered that our Boba tea sales, and our poutine sales were the exact same and were a number that meant a lot to us. I can’t make this up, and so it was quickly determined that Boba tea has to stay. 


So it took me a split second to gather up the energy to tell Steve that I really didn’t like selling them and I have a hard time selling something that I don’t like. To which his response was, “then I’ll sell them.” Just as quickly as he responded I said “OK!” it was genius to me, and the concept of BATTLE of the BOBA developed right there.


Now, I am aware enough to know that everybody wants their sweet treats. I love a tub of ice cream on the couch from time to time and I love having options. I love giving customers the chance to get whatever they feel their soul needs that day. And I. LOVE. GIVING. options. Options, options, options.


If you have visited us yet, you’ll see that our trucks are entirely different in health factor, in menus, and ingredients, but we live life with a balance. I can eat a poutine every day, but it doesn’t speak to me every day, on the days that it does, I eat a poutine. When Steve is feeling it, he comes to my truck and has an Açai bowl. We’ve created a balance and we’ve created options, and this is what I am excited to move forward with.


So, here comes BATTLE  of the BOBA! I have personally sourced a four ingredient, low sugar, brown sugar, tapioca ball that will be used in my Boba teas and I’ve also sourced protein tea options, and two other recipes with wholesome ingredients and alternative natural sugars. Steve will maintain a menu with lots of different flavor choices and has created some of the sweetest, best tasting treats around! We’re going to roll with this, keep track of our BATTLE of the BOBA and have some fun with it!
